About us

AD MUSICAM, an auditioned community choir for adults, was formed in July 2005 by a group of people who wanted to make choral music part of their lives.

AD MUSICAM means “to/for music.” The choir believes that making music enriches our lives and its name represents its approach to music and singing, which is reinforced in its motto, with heart and soul.

Under the direction of South African-born Ansa Fourie, an experienced choral conductor, AD MUSICAM espouses the joy of song and sharing music by performing a wide range of musical styles. Ansa has been involved in choral music since childhood and has directed a variety of choirs including church, children’s, girls, youth and adult choirs. Over the years her choirs have won many awards in national and international choral competitions.

In 2007 AD MUSICAM was awarded first place in the Chamber Choir and Sacred Choral sections of the City of Sydney McDonalds Arts Challenge. It won the award again in the Sacred Choral section in 2008. In 2010 this choir was awarded second place in the sections Choir Any Age and Sacred Choral.

Also in 2007, AD MUSICAM performed Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with Polyphony Choir, pianist Phillip Shovk and the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra (NSSO), as part of the NSSO’s 60th birthday anniversary celebrations. This concert was named “Community Event of the Year” by North Sydney Council at its Australia Day celebrations. In 2009, the choir again featured as guest artist at the NSSO’s final concert where they performed “Great Choral Works,” such as Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, Mozart’s Lacrimosa from the Requiem Mass, Verdi’s Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor, amongst other.

The choir participated in the 2007, 2009 and 2011 Festival of Choirs, a biennial event presented by the Australian Musicians Academy. In 2008, AD MUSICAM was presented by McArthur and Lane Cove Music Clubs, in 2009 by Wahroonga, East-Killara and Wyvern Music Clubs. In 2010 the choir performed by invitation with Joubert Singers in a joint concert and in 2012 AD MUSICAM again was invited to perform for the Lane Cove Music Club and in 2013 for the McArthur Music Club.

In 2014, AD MUSICAM was invited to perform at the Borrodell Vineyard Choir Festival in Orange, where they shared the stage with the Orange Male Voice Choir.

AD MUSICAM is based in Castle Hill and rehearses once a week on Monday nights.
